The Institute for Research on Social, Political and Cultural Studies

The Institute hopes that the trajectories of the research that will be supported by the Institute in the future will evolve through dialogue, academic exchanges and consultations with the members of the wider community.

About Us

Kotram Institute is an independent, non-profit institution founded with a view to conducting research on social, political and cultural issues that shape and affect the lives of the people who are living in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka, their diasporas, other communities that are historically, linguistically, culturally and politically connected to them and Tamil speaking people who live outside the Northern and Eastern Provinces including Tamil-speaking Muslims and Malaiyaha Tamils. The Institute’s research endeavors are driven by a commitment to generating knowledge that not only contributes to academic understanding but also translates into tangible benefits for Tamil speaking communities.
